Apparently this record is a total DIY job and took seven months to put together. If so, good work sirs. ‘Input The Output’ seemed to come out a long, long time ago now. Maybe that’s my memory not serving me well, maybe it was actually an age ago. Either way, the band are back with a relative bang and a punk record that’s ballsy yet full of vocal melodies and hooks. It’s an aggressive beast – ‘Infected Lights‘ is a real bastard of a song with a catchy hook but some angry lyrics and vocals – and that’s what makes this record stand out. It is a little scratchy production-wise, but it suits the band well. This isn’t a genre of music you can sugar-coat and remain authentic. ‘Loss of a Soul’ is a spiteful bundle of noise too with guitars edging out from all angles and a spikey, pissed off vocal adding a razor sharp edge.
I guess Gallows comparisons are inevitable, if not all that fair. But British bands being noisy, loud and passionate will always lead to lazy suggestions. If you like the Carter boys’ band I’d suggest listening to 1000 Hertz – like The Ghost of a Thousand and Blackhole they’re a band doing great things and well worth your time.
