Friday 08 July 2011 Drewvis – Disposable Pleasures And Meaningful Pursuits Whilst never actually being bad per se, DREWVIS‘ previous material has always seemed a little flat. The guitar and bass approach to acoustic reggae/ska has lacked the ingenuity and vigour of some of the band’s peers. It’s nice to see then that ‘Disposable Pleasures And Meaningful Pursuits’ Top Buzzer – Outside is a World Hailing from the buzzing punk-rock metropolis that is Jersey (in the Channel Islands, not the U.S.) by way of London town, TOP BUZZER come straight out of the gate with a hybrid New Wave and Ramones-esque pop-punk sound that’s unrelenting in Break of Day – Illusions Burn When a band cites Strike Anywhere, Rise Against, Lagwagon, and Strung Out as influences, you have a pretty good impression of what you’re going to get before the CD hits the stereo. Belgium’s BREAK OF DAY Arizona – Popcorn & Cinemagic A somewhat uncomfortable feeling prevails as you read the track listing to ‘Popcorn & Cinemagic’. Every single song is named after a movie quote. This reeks of gimmick.
