True Liberty – This is War

I’m not a fan of three chord punk rock, especially if it’s of the political variety. I just find it so basic and cliched and while I know it’s how punk rock was born, 30 years on I just don’t really find that kind of sound relevant any more.

Protohero – S/T

I reviewed a Protohero demo a while back and gave them 3/5 – a view which hasn’t really changed after listening to this record released on Pass To The Left. At times the band remind me of Capdown, at others they just seem weirdly misplaced

Ambitions – Stranger

Featuring former members of With Honor, Ambitions have a lot to live up to. After releasing an under-the-radar EP on Think Fast! Records the band inked a deal with Bridge 9, a label certainly attracting some attention in recent months after a string

Desoto Jones – Aurora

It’s very rare Deep Elm get it wrong so it’s no surprise that Desoto Jones are excellent. ‘Auorar’ is a great record, full of anthemic rock songs that hit hard yet have huge hooks and chrouses. With a Jimmy Eat World/Saves The Day/

This is my Honesty – Heritage

Cambs quartet This is my Honesty are certainly on an upward curve. Their last demo was relatively good; an Ian Wetherell-produced slice of catchy pop-punk it was a record that ticked all the right boxes, except for the fact it wasn’t catchy enough. A year

And Now We’re Even – Winter Without You

One of the reasons why I like this band so much is that they’re so utterly genuine about what they do. And Now We’re Even don’t borrow from other genres, they don’t pay lip service to what’s popular and they sure as hell don’t really sound like

Farewell – Isn’t This Supposed To Be Fun?

The album titles hits the nail on the head for Farewell. And luckily for them this CD is a great deal of fun. Bridging the gap between Motion City Soundtrack and Fall Out Boy, the band use synths to create some

All Idols Fall – Demo

For many people All Idols Fall will have come to their attention as they’ve been confirmed as openers on A Wilhelm Scream‘s UK tour next year – but when they actually listen to the band the chances are they’ll come to even more

Fall of Troy change bass player

Punknews.org report The Fall of Troy have announced that their bassist Tim Ward’s recently leave of abscence is now permanent. Filling the place will be the temporary bassist who has now been promoted to “permanent” bassist. The new player, Frank Black, is already on tour with the
