Watch LA duo Sego perform ‘Stars’ live at The Cube

By Ben Tipple

With a sound owing as much to indie as it does to more experimental tones, LA duo Sego have established themselves as an integral part of their local punk scene. This accolade is in no small part thanks to The Cube, a part industrial warehouse and part hippie commune from which Sego’s Spencer Petersen and Thomas Carroll operate.

“It’s in this weird industrial wasteland downtown,” Spencer explains, sharing the loft with members of other bands and saving the downstairs space for equipment storage. “We share a perimeter with the UPS trucking yard and a cement factory.”

Acting as the perfect venue to showcase their music, Sego set about recording a number of live sessions in the space. “We moved from Utah to Los Angeles and have been living, recording, and throwing parties at our warehouse downtown since then,” they add. “It’s a mix between squalor and idealism… We shot this session at our place to give a look at what it’s like. I also feel awkward pretending to be playing for a crowd, so we arranged things so we could be facing each other like a regular jam (minus the lighting and projection).”

‘Stars’, the song in question, is an enveloping blend of their lofty indie tones and emo-esque vocal delivery. Check out the live session filmed at The Cube below:

‘Stars’ is taken from the band’s ‘Once Was Lost Now Just Hanging Around’ LP, available now via Raygun and Dine Alone. The band will be heading to The Great Escape and Dot To Dot festivals over the coming weeks. See below for their Great Escape showcase slots.
