Charlie Simpson details new album and London show

Ex-Busted and Fightstar vocalist Charlie Simpson has confirmed his new solo record, ‘Long Road Home’, will be released on the 14th July 2014.

“The making of this album has been an incredible journey for me, it is probably the hardest record I have ever had to make,” he confessed on Facebook. “It took me a while to find what I was looking for and there were points when I nearly had to go back to the drawing board. However, after taking some much needed time out from writing and all things music related, I came back with a completely fresh perspective and wrote in my opinion, some of the best music I have written in my career so far. It’s an album I am hugely proud of and one I had to fight for which makes it all the more special. I can’t wait to finally be able to share it with you guys!”

‘Long Road Home’ is available to pre-order now. Those pre-ordering through the official store or via iTunes will also receive a download link to the first track taken from the record, ‘Winter Hymns’.

To celebrate the release of his new record, Simpson will be playing a one-off show at London’s Roundhouse on the 14th October.

Pre-sale tickets are available now, with general tickets going on sale this Friday via SeeTickets.

Tonight, CHARLIE SIMPSON has managed to completely and utterly pack Islington Academy. And not just with rabid female fans, a pretty wild amount of extremely tall grown men make up the numbers as well – undoubtable proof of just how far Charlie has come from his Busted and Fightstar days to his incredibly brilliant debut solo album ‘Young Pilgrim’.

First things first: Charlie Simpson is great live. His husky voice is flawless and his backing band are much the same. Considering the fact that he plays a fairly long set, he manages to maintain the audience’s concentration impressively. Single ‘Parachutes‘ is second on the setlist and it goes down a storm.

He plays a set largely consisting of the contents of ‘Young Pilgrim’, but there’s also a rare treat in there: a Cutting Crew cover of ‘(I Just) Died In Your Arms’, which is Completely brilliant. In a surprising turn of events, Charlie plays his most famous solo hit, ‘Down Down Down’ halfway through the set rather than saving the best for last as most expect – much like the rest of the set, it sounds beautiful.

For the rest of the show, Simpson plays the remainder of ‘Young Pilgrim’ and then comes back on to play an encore, ending with the delectable ‘Farmer & His Gun’. He and his band are mesmerising; the crowd cannot take their eyes off the stage. Blame that lovely voice.
