Heart And Lung – ‘Telecaster’

I came across Heart And Lung on a random browse through Facebook. A tiny, but absolutely fantastic, melodic punk rock band from Cleveland, Ohio. Check out ‘You Wanna Know The Truth?’, which is out now.

Can’t Swim – ‘Even In Death’

Can’t Swim are one of the most promising new bands around at the moment. Having smashed their appearances at Slam Dunk, things are looking very good for the New Jersey crew.

Patrons – ‘Saorsa’

Plymouth’s Patrons are rapidly building a rep for consistently releasing banger after banger and ‘Saorsa’ is no exception. Keep an eye out as they hit the road with Haggard Cat very soon.

Comeback Kid – ‘Little Soldier’

The Canadian Hardcore Punks have nailed it, once again. In the middle of dates all over the world, the quintet show no signs of letting up. ‘Little Soldier’ is another rager to add to their already huge back catalogue.

Save Face – ‘Heartache’

Not having heard of Save Face before, this wonderful track landed in my inbox a few days back. It’s melodic and chilled, yet absolutely massive at the same time. New stuff coming on Epitaph Records from the New Jersey based group.

Smother – ‘Disgrace’

Smother released their new single ‘Disgrace’ a couple of weeks back. A huge track that has given the Manchester group a solid footing. Exciting things to come here.

A Wilhelm Scream – ‘The King Is Dead’

The punk rock riff lords hit the UK in a few weeks time. DO NOT MISS THEM! One of the very best punk bands in the world.

Traverse – ‘Asymptotes’

Having shared a bill with these chaps a few weeks back over in France, I was blown away. Flawless harmonies and killer melodies. Check out their new self-titled record which is out now.

Retirement Party – ‘Passion Fruit Tea’

Chicago’s own indie-punks, Retirement Party released their new record ‘Somewhat Literate’ a couple of weeks back through Counter Intuitive Records. It’s awesome! Go listen!

Not Scientists – ‘Perfect World’

Made up of some of France’s finest punk rock musicians, Not Scientists are a European touring machine. Constantly on the road, somehow the band found time to release the fantastic new album ‘Golden Staples’. Out now through Rookie Records / Kidnap Music.

No Trigger have just finished up an extensive EU tour, seeing a host of shows with Propagandhi. ‘Sleeping Bag’ is taken from 2017’s Adult Braces, released through Bird Attack Records.

Wonk Unit – ‘As The Rest Of The World Sleeps’

Currently, and permanently, on tour, London-punks, Wonk Unit are the true unsung heroes of UK DIY Punk Rock. If you’re yet to experience Wonk Unit live, they’re guaranteed to be playing five minutes down the road, no matter where you live, this year!

The Sidekicks – ‘Don’t Feel Like Dancing’

‘Don’t Feel Like Dancing’ is the lead single from Ohio quartet The Sidekicks’ new record ‘Happiness Hours’, set for release on 18 May through Epitaph Records. Fantastic, melodic indie/rock – perfect for a summer afternoon.

Youth Avoiders – ‘Watch Me’

There must be something in the water; France is currently spawning an incredible crop of punk rock bands, and Youth Avoiders from Paris are no exception. The new album ‘Relentless’ is out now.

Astpai – ‘Best Years’

Over the last 17 years, these four Viennese gentlemen have cemented their place as one of the finest European punk rock exports. ‘Best Years’ is the lead single from the new album ‘True Capacity’, out June 22 through Shield Recordings.

Pkew Pkew Pkew – ‘Mid 20’s Skateboarder’

Toronto has become a hotbed for melodic punk rock over the last 10 years and Pkew Pkew Pkew have hopped on board that wave. The band hit Europe and the UK for the first time at the start of June. ‘+One’ is out now through Side One Dummy.

Captain Everything! – ‘The Bomb Song’

Watford’s finest, Captain Everything, were a relentless touring machine throughout the ’00s. Having blown my mind, leaving me struggling to comprehend how a band could play that fast back when I was a teenager, the trio recently posted that they were back rehearsing occasionally. This is my plea. Please, play shows again!

Free Throw – ‘Randy, I Am The Liquor’

These chaps hit the UK and Europe for a huge run, taking in every corner of the continent. Absolutely fantastic, widdly emo. The new record ‘Bear Your Mind’ is out now on Triple Crown Records.

Stone – Lost On You

Featuring ex-members of Expire, Stone have been picked up by Pure Noise Records. A new record and heavy touring are on their way. Bang your head!

Spanish Love Songs – ‘Joana, in Five Acts’

This punk rock quintet from Los Angeles are heading to Europe this April and May, following an extensive tour in North America. A new record is on its way too, through A-F Records and Uncle M. Expect more huge melodies!

Prince Daddy & The Hyena – ‘Really?’

‘Really?’ is taken from the US indie/punks’ record, ‘I thought You Didn’t Even Like Leaving’. December saw the band complete a full US tour with Mom Jeans and Kississippi. Europe this year, maybe?

Surf Dads – ‘Fall Apart’

I totally judged a book by it’s cover here, but in a good way. The artwork for ‘All Day Breakfast’ is awesome, which made me think, this has to be good. Fantastic, chilled indie/punk rock vibes.

Tellison – ‘Boy’

Tellison are one of the most underrated bands in the UK, it’s great to see that they will be back on the road in April, including an appearance at Manchester Punk Festival.

Templeton Pek – ‘Sirens’

The Brum-punks are gearing up for the release of their fifth studio album in 10 years. ‘Sirens’ is another great slice of melody driven, anthemic punk rock.

The Steal – ‘Breakout’

It’s been about 10 years since The Steal called it a day. One of the UK’s finest punk/hardcore bands. If you never knew, go back and dig in to their back catalogue. You won’t regret it!

Baggage – ‘The Good That Never Comes’

Formed out of the ashes of The Swellers, the Flint Michigan quartet have released two EP’s of incredible melodic punk rock. It’s infectious and will be rattling around your head for days.

After just passing through the UK, on tour with The Menzingers, Pup have reminded everyone why they are currently one of the most exciting bands in the world. ‘The Dream Is Over’ is out now on Side One Dummy.

Selfish Things – ‘8147 Mulholland Avenue’

I was having a dig through related artists on Spotify this week and came across this fantastic quintet from Ontario, Canada. Well thought out, anthemic, passionate rock music. Maybe, some plans to hit the UK this year?

Have Nots – ‘Louisville Slugger’

This Boston-based quartet play gruff punk rock, mixed with up-tempo ska. Unfortunately, they’ve not been active since 2016, but don’t let that put you off digging in to their back catalogue. Also, what’s better than a tune about a baseball bat?

Wood And Nails – ‘Resolutions’

Birmingham is turning out some really fantastic bands at the moment and melodic-punks Wood And Nails have joined that fold. If new single ‘Resolutions’ is a sign of what’s to come, things are looking very good!

Funeral Shakes – ‘Over You’

Funeral Shakes have burst on to the scene, creating a real buzz, and rightfully so. Featuring members of Nervus, Gallows and The Smoking Hearts, it’s understandable why they sound so good. They’re on tour in the UK very soon!

While She Sleeps – ‘Steal The Sun’

One of the crown jewels in UK Metal, these Sheffield-based gents head out for a string of shows through early February. Expect carnage, as usual!

The Menzingers – ‘Bad Catholics’

Off the back of last year’s ‘After The Party’, The Menzingers solidified themselves as one the best melodic punk bands in the world. They grace the UK, once again, in just over a week’s time. Get excited, and be quick with your tickets!

Worst Days Down – ‘A Song For David’

Canada is a real talent hotbed and Worst Days Down from Edmonton, Alberta, are another fantastic group to fly under that flag. ‘A Song For David’ is taken from 2017’s ‘Elsewhere’, out now through Gunner Records

Timeshares – ‘Anxious & Aspy’

Downstate New Yorkers, Timeshares, snuck out a four track EP ahead of last weekend. Another slice of fantastic melodic punk rock, following on from 2015’s ‘Already Dead’.

The Offenders – ‘Black Caesar’

These “Reggae Hooligans”, who hail from Italy, now residing in Berlin, have taken the mainland scene by storm. 2018 will see the band release their new record, ‘Heart Of Glass’ through Destiny Records. Expect much more continental touring this year.

We Were Sharks – ‘Ashley’

Remember when pop punk was fast? We Were Sharks will scratch that itch! The Canadian sextet are hitting the road all over Northern America over the next few months. Make sure to make a show.

Darko – ‘Hiraeth’

One of the UK’s finest DIY punk bands. There’s a tonne of back catalogue to dig in to and it’s all awesome. ‘Bonsai Mammoth’, the bands latest record, is out now through Lockjaw Records.

Creeper – ‘Poison Pens’

The Southampton-based anthemic punks kick off their ‘Theatre Of Fear’ tour next week, closing out a year which has been completely ridiculous. Make sure to get to a show – they’re going to be something special. ‘Eternity, In Your Arms’ is out now.

Hightower – ‘Mushrooms & Bamboo’

Paris-punks Hightower caught my eye a couple of years back, playing a bar show just down the road. Catchy, fast and rammed full of melody. Their new album, ‘Club Dragon’ is out now through Krod Records.

Backtrack – ‘War’

‘War’ is taken from the Long Islanders’ new record, ‘Bad To My World’, which is out now through Bridge 9 Records. Proving again they’re one of the premium punk/hardcore bands in the world, I challenge you to put this on and not bang your head.

Patrons – ‘First Of The Slow Burners’

A year on since its release, I’m still spinning this tune on the regular. The Plymouth quartet have created their own brand of post-hardcore and are ones to keep an eye on. ‘As Above, So Below’ is out now through Rose Coloured Records.

Great Collapse – ‘Human Target’

Great Collapse are heading to the UK and Europe in early 2018, and will have a new record too. Exciting times for the group, who feature current and ex members of Strike Anywhere, Set Your Goals, Rise Against and Death By Stereo.

Shoreline – ‘Breakfast (at 5pm)’

These young German punks have just announced the details of their new EP and an extensive UK and EU touring schedule for 2018. Exciting things to come!

Quitters – ‘Why Should We Burn Our Lives?’

France is currently kicking out some really fantastic bands and indie/punks, Quitters from Montpellier are no exception. ‘Why Should We Burn Our Lives?’ is taken from the bands ‘Good Night Memories’ album, which was released earlier this year.

Vultures United – ‘Pigs Are Creeping’

These Californaian punks passed through the UK around 10 years ago on a DIY tour, smashing the living daylights out of every venue with condensed 20 minute sets. I have been hooked ever since – they blew my mind. After taking some time out, the band are back now and have released a 30 track-double album, which slams from start to finish. A real hidden punk rock gem.

Sleaford Mods – ‘B.H.S’

Socially conscious and completely on it. It’s punk, but not how you expect it – spilling all of the truths about modern England. This duo from Nottingham are truly one of a kind. Take a few and listen to what they have to say. ‘English Tapas’ is out now through Rough Trade Records.

Crucial Dudes – ‘Shitty Wizard’

These Philadelphian punks split up a few years back. Last year they reformed, wrote and released a Double-A Side single (their first music since 2011). Seemingly much more chilled with the band, the two new tunes are bonafide bangers.

7 Years Bad Luck – ‘Not OK’

Hailing from Austria, 7 Years Bad Luck are another jewel in the crown of the underground scene in mainland Europe. ‘Not OK’ is taken from the new album ‘Great, Big, Nothing’, which is available through Monster Zero & No Reason Records.

Caskitt – ‘Old Fires New Frontier’

Caskitt, from San Diego, tip their hat to that early 2000s punk rock sound. ‘Old Fires New Frontier’ is taken from the 2016 album of the same name, out now through La Escalera Records.

Freedumb – ‘Let It Slide’

‘Let It Slide’ is the brand new single from Scandinavian skatepunks Freedumb. An aggressive, fast and melodic banger. Exciting things ahead for this trio.

Continents – ‘Preacher’

The South Wales-based metal/hardcore crew are back with an absolutely punishing new single. Seemingly having a new lease of life, the quintet are ones to keep an eye on again.

Culture Abuse – ‘So Busted’

Having been recently snapped up by Epitaph, the San Francisco garage-punks released ‘So Busted’ a few months back. An ace taster of what’s to come!

Dune Rats – ‘Demolition Derby’

Australia is kicking out some serious talent at the moment and Dune Rats are one of the finest. Garage-stoner-punk rock singalongs! ‘Demolition Derby’ is taken from ‘The Kids Will Know It’s Bullshit’, released earlier this year. Check it out!

Tribute To Nothing – ‘Something I Can Trust’

Tribute To Nothing have long since called it a day, but are one of my biggest personal influences. I saw these guys play in Worcester in around 2006 and they completely blew my teenage mind. I went back to this record this week and it’s still absolutely on point, even at 10+ years old.

Pianos Become The Teeth – ‘Charisma’

The Baltimore quintet have shared the first single from their upcoming new album ‘Wait For Love’, out in February through Epitaph Records. Was this going to be anything but epic?

Jaya The Cat – ‘Amsterdam’

Jaya The Cat have solidified themselves as one of the best reggae-punk bands in the world. ‘Amsterdam’, written about their home town, is taken from ‘A Good Day For The Damned’, which hits stores this Friday. Catch them on tour in the UK in a few weeks time.

Every Time I Die – ‘No Son Of Mine’

Every Time I Die are back on this side of the pond and currently smashing their way around the UK and Europe right now, with one of the hardest tour packages ever put together. ‘No Son Of Mine’ is taken from ‘The Big Dirty’ which turned 10 years old in September.

Daisyhead – ‘Common Ground’

The Nashville emo-quartet kick off their UK and EU tour in just a few days. Catch them on the road with Sibling at your local venue. ‘Common Ground’ is taken from ‘In Case You Missed It’, which is out now through No Sleep Records.

Onsind – ‘Immature’

Onsind are gearing up for the release of their new album ‘We Wilt We Bloom’ through Specialist Subject on Friday. Fantastic jangly, alternative punk with a distinctive Northern-English twang.

Clowns – ‘Destroy The Evidence’

These Melbourne-based hardcore/punks have spent the last couple of years hitting every corner of the UK and European underground scene and have really made a name for themselves as ones to watch. Keep a look out for new UK tour dates in 2018 – you want to catch these live.

Lionheart – ‘Shelter’

Having just released their new album, ‘Welcome To The West Coast II’ through Fast Break! Records, the Californian mosh crew kick off their extensive European tour in just a few days. Stick it on. Bang your head.

Giants – ‘Did It Mean So Much To You’

These London based skate-hardcore-punks are bringing an end to the band in a months time – December 14 – at The Old Blue Last, London. One of the truest punk bands from the isle, who weren’t afraid to work hard for their art. Will be a huge loss to the scene.

Smile And Burn – ‘Not Happy’

The Berliners released their ‘Get Better Get Worse’ album at the end of 2016 and it’s been all uphill since. Having played almost every festival and a hugely successful headline tour, 2018 is looking to be even bigger and better for the quintet. Clever, catchy and will be stuck in your head for days.

The Swellers – ‘2009’

I’ve had a bit of a binge on The Swellers this week. Unfortunately, they split up a few years back, but it’s well worth digging in to their back catalogue. An absolutely fantastic melodic punk rock band.

The Hard Aches – ‘Brain Drain’

The melodic punk duo from Adelaide released this new single a few weeks back and are currently on tour all over Australia in support. One of the catchiest bands around at the moment; killer melodies.

The Dopamines – ‘Ire’

‘Ire’ is taken from The Dopamines new album, ‘Tales Of Interest’. Upbeat, modern punk rock with hooks galore. Dig deep in to these guys’ back catalogue – you won’t regret it!

Terrible Love – ‘Doubt Mines’

Based all across the South East of the UK are Terrible Love. One of the isles’ most exciting new punk/hardcore bands. Having been picked up by Big Scary Monsters, a new EP is on it’s way in January. Keep a close eye on these.

Cold Wrecks – ‘Therapy’

Cold Wrecks, from Brooklyn NY, describe themselves as “Dad rock for pop-punkers, pop-punk for emo kids, emo for dads.” I couldn’t put it any better. Their fantastic new split EP with Trash Boyz is out now through Brighter Days Records.

Stick To Your Guns – ‘The Better Days Before Me’

One of the realest, hardest touring modern hardcore bands are back with their new album, ‘True View’, out now through End Hits Records. Hardcore with a real message. Catch them on tour in the UK before the end of the year.

Rise Against – ‘House On Fire’

The Chicago punk legends are back in the UK this month, supporting their new record, ‘Wolves’. 11 tracks of trademark, politically-infused punk rock.

The Dirty Nil – ‘No Weaknesses’

After winning everyone’s hearts on every festival in the UK and Europe this summer, The Dirty Nil have been on my stereo relentlessly since, and should be on yours too. The Canadian trio are loud, swaggy and know how to write a tune. Awesome.

Pizzatramp – ‘Pollyticks’

These riffy, rapid thrash-punks are causing quite a stir in the DIY punk scene. The trio from South Wales have a handful of releases out now through TNS / Plasterer Records. Catch them on tour around the UK over the next few weeks.

Guillotine – ‘Sapphire’

These chaps, signed to Failure By Design have just come off a full UK tour with Brutus. This tune has been rattling around my head since its release late last year. These guys are destined for big things.

Such Gold – ‘Ceiling Stare’

Such Gold are one of the most under-rated bands in punk rock. Having smashed it for years all over the world, punk label Bird Attack Records picked them up. The new EP, ‘Deep In A Hole’ is out now. Riffs, killer melodies and relentless pace.

Nervus – Oh Joy

Watford quartet Nervus released their debut album ‘Permanent Rainbow’ through Venn Records last year. They’ll be taking to the road in support of Creeper later this year. Infectious emo/punk rock – it’ll be stuck in your head.

Direct Hit! – Blood On Your Tongue

Taken from the soon-to-be-released split with PEARS is this new single from Milwaukee punks, Direct Hit! Constantly on the road in the States, hopefully it won’t be long before they hit this side of the pond. Think, Andrew WK meets The Aquabats. Wild and catchy.

The Fullblast – Shame

‘Shame’ is taken from the ‘Attack.Sustain.Decay’ EP, released in February. Having split 10 years ago, The Fullblast, from Ontario Canada, refound the spark and reformed and have completely smashed it with this new offering. It’s melodic, fast, anthemic punk rock. Fantastic!

Citizen – Ugly Luck

‘Ugly Luck’ is taken from the brand new record, ‘As You Please’ – Out Now through Run For Cover. Once again, Citizen have sculpted a record full of huge sounding emotional rock songs. There’s aggression and anger, as well as restraint and calm. A flawless release.

Fjort – Couleur

Singing in their own native tongue, Aachen-based trio Fjort are one of the finest post-hardcore bands you are likely to hear. ‘Couleur’ is the first single, taken from the album of the same name, which is out on November 17 through Grand Hotel Van Cleef.

The Interrupters – Phantom City

‘Phantom City’ is taken from 2016’s ‘Say It Loud’ – a 14-track masterpiece of 2-tone Ska and Californian street punk. The band recently shared that they are back in the studio; album three is on its way!

Eat Defeat – Shortcuts

Blending a shared love of pop music, fast skate punk and upbeat pop punk to create high energy melodic songs are Leeds quartet, Eat Defeat. One of the jewels in the crown of the UK DIY punk scene.

Hard Girls – Puddle Of Blood

Taken from the brand new record ‘Floating Now’, out now through Specialist Subject & Asian Man Records. This fourth offering from the San Jose trio features more of their trademarked upbeat, melodic punk rock. Currently touring throughout California.

Cold Reading – Books And Comfort

This indie/emo crew from Lucerne, Switzerland, have just released their new EP ‘Sojourner’ through KROD Records. Catch them on the road throughout mainland Europe. Massive hooks throughout.

Sciatic Nerve – Buy A Horse

Frantic, fast, angry punk rock. Sciatic Nerve feature members of Swingin Utters, Nothington, Western Addiction and Cobra Skulls – some real punk credentials. This quartet is one to keep an eye on – one of the most exciting new punk bands I’ve heard this year.

The Flatliners – Indoors

The Flatliners head to the UK this week in support of their new album ‘Inviting Light’ – out now on Rise Records. Still proving that they are one of punk rock’s finest.

Iron Chic – My Best Friend (Is A Nihilist)

Iron Chic are gearing up for the release of their new album ‘You Can’t Stay Here’ through Side One Dummy. Yet more infectiously catchy melodic punk rock from the Long Islanders.

Can’t Swim – God Awful

New Jersey’s Cant Swim released this standalone single through Pure Noise Records at the end of September, following on from the release of ‘Fail You Again’ earlier this year. Huge, anthemic rock music. Catch them on tour in the UK with Creeper in December.

Racquet Club – Head Full Of Bees

This new Los Angeles quartet feature members of Knapsack, The Jealous Sound and Samiam. Their debut self-titled album is out now through Rise Records. I’m hooked, big time.

River Jumpers – Thick Blood

Brighton-based River Jumpers released their new single ‘Thick Blood’ last week. Another dose of hook-laden, upbeat punk rock. They’re the cream of the crop when it comes to UK pop punk.

The Xcerts – Daydream

Once again, The Xcerts have blown everyone out of the water. ‘Daydream’, the new single from the Aberdeen-via-Brighton trio follows their trademark brand of emotional rock music with soaring choruses and impeccable musicianship. It’s criminal that The Xcerts aren’t the biggest band in the UK.

Blackout Problems – Follow Me

Taken from 2016’s ‘Holy’, ‘Follow Me’ has been my most listened to track of the past 12 months. Blackout Problems, who hail from Munich, are currently packing out shows all over the continent. Hopefully, it’s not too long before they grace the UK with their flawless melodic post-hardcore noise.

Frank Grimes And The Distasters – Turn Off Your Radio

You don’t hear of many punk rock bands from Barnsley, but, Frank Grimes And The Disasters are certainly the best. If you miss that old Alkaline Trio sound, I guarantee you will love these guys. Catch them opening the Fireball Fuelling The Fire Tour in Sheffield later this month.

Propagandhi – Victory Lap

Having just released their new album ‘Victory Lap’ through Epitaph, these absolute legends will be back in the UK in April including an appearance at Manchester Punk Festival. I can’t wait!

Converge – ‘Reptilian’

‘Reptilian’ is the third single, taken from the upcoming new album ‘The Dusk In Us’. Keeping with tradition, Converge provide us with another punishing slice of metal-tinged hardcore.
