The Campaign For Real Time – “Yes… I Mean, No.”

By paul

I like the start of this – I really do. It has an opening that catches you, with 80s-infused dancepop stylings and other associated audio sexiness. Why don’t I actually like the album then? It’s one of those from the that’s a shame’ pile – the vocals ruin it. Whiney, droning, slurring and ultimately irritating they manage to kill off the pleasure that the music itself conjures up. It makes me think of NME hipster shit, and this annoys me. Yes, I’m irrational. So fucking what? It’s my review – you can all call me a cunt at the bottom down there.

Anyway, the fun, dancey pop beats aren’t present in every song, thus nullifying everything I’ve said about liking them (the beats, that is), and I find the slower, more musically proficient tracks are actually worse. I know for a fact that this band will appeal to a hell of a lot of people – I have friends (!) that like them, for one. I just don’t. Slow-moving, too-cool-for-itself and irritating. Ah well.
