Big Scary Monsters - All The Better To Eat You With My Dear, Various Artists
BSM probably have one of the better, and certainly one of the most diverse, rosters on the UK circuit and their latest 14-track compilation goes to show just how good it is. There's something for everyone, from the raucous Chariots to the magical Itch, right through to the tender The Remarkable Rocket and the poptastic Kneehigh. Some tracks are better than others, but that's to be expected on a compilation. The simple fact, however, is with a BSM release you know you'll be getting value for money and this really doesn't break that tradition.

Many of the songs on here have been featured on the respective band's latest release, but there are a few gems if you're yet to seek those out. Jaime's on top form with The Remarkable Rocket's 'Spaceships' and I'm really looking forward to a new release. Kneehigh and Get Cape Wear Cape Fly are two of the hottest properties on the UK underground circuit right now and their songs really shine through on this CD. Jeniferever are an acquired taste, but I'm quite partial to their spacial emo stylings, while Secondsmile and Sparks Lights and Flames do their thing in exceptional fashion. If you're new to the label, or looking for a ready-made summer mixtape, look no further.
