Another Year On The Streets, Various Artists
Emo label Vagrant has unleashed its latest sampler that geeky lovelorn kids everywhere should immediately lap up.
Jam packed with 20 tracks, mostly unreleased, from bands such as The Get Up Kids, Saves The Day and Rocket From The Crypt, this CD is perfect for anyone who wants to hear what the emo genre has to offer, or fans of any of the bands on the label.
From the scuzz-rock shenanigans of the Gotohells, to the stripped down accoustic ramblings of The New Amsterdams, there is really something for everyone on this CD.
As with any compilation, there are the obvious standouts whilst at the same time there are some complete duffers. Having not heard anything by Alkaline Trio previously, the two tracks included, 'Crawl' and 'Bloodied Up' are both excellent. No Motiv and Saves The Day maintain their usual high standards, and Automatic 7 get down and dirty with 'Last Train To Hitsville.'
'Proceed With Caution' by The New Amsterdams is a beautiful little ditty, whilst The Get Up Kids produce their usual brilliance with a stonking live studio version of 'I'm A Loner Dottie, A Rebel.'
The Koufax track, 'Going To Happen,' is a bit too experimental, and in my opinion the two face to Face songs are dull and unimaginative. I don't like the guy's vocals either. Sorry.
Available from all good music stores for just a fiver ($8), Another Year On The Streets is well worth checking out.
