Take Action Volume 6, Various Artists

This is the best compilation of 2007. I just thought I'd declare that now, even though we're not through with February yet. Two CDs covering 43 songs and a 29-track DVD for less than a fiver - and it's for charity - makes this the best value-for-money compilation ever released. And that's without factoring in the bands on this release - My Chem, Paramore, Strike Anywhere, Hellogoodbye, The Matches, Rise Against and loads, loads more.
Sub City and Hopeless need to be commended for their efforts with this CD, the Take Action tour and the cause it promotes. Helping raise cash to help young people in crisis and raising the profile of mental illness in young people, there's a strong message and it's great to see so many bands - many on majors - giving their support to the cause. In a sense the music on these discs is secondary to the cause they promote, but overall there's a great line-up, a sprinkling of previously unreleased material and a wide variety of styles and bands. And in a sampler, you cannot ask for any more. For the price, this is essential listening. Well done to all concerned.
