Raggedy Records Promo 1, Various Artists
A compilation from Raggedy Records with what looks like a hand-written front cover and a CD-R - raggedy by name and clearly raggedy by nature! This is all in the DIY spirit and arguably isn't as utilised as much as it perhaps could be. With 'copy and give to everyone you know' pasted on the front, the people behind this record clearly have the right idea. It's primarily a skate-punk EpiFat compilation with lots of riffs peeled off and machine-gun drumming from a tonne of local acts you may not have heard yet. Rezmo and Stupid Brick are more than solid, Pete's Sake and Bits of Kidds awesome, while Rhythmic Coughing may alreday be known to PT readers.
Not every song is a winner mind - Losing Six Seconds are a little ramshackle for me, the quality of recording of Dick Truth lets the side down and May Contain Nuts' ode to puking and shitting is a little too purile for me. Everyone in the world seems to like The Hitchers - except for me - while My Little Murder are average at best. Overall though, this is a worthwhile little CD and for free it's excellent value. There's too much emphasis on the MP3 and I still believe traditional methods are among the best; this CD is well worth picking up if you can find it.
