Play Dead - The Shit Volume 2, Various Artists
I'm sure most people rading this will know of Play Dead zine - it's one of the UK's premier publications and has quite possibly the best presentation. As with the Punktastic Un-Scene series, 'The Shit' focused on bands lauded by Marc and co in the zine and did a stellar job - less than a year on and here is the second installment in the series and this one is quite possibly even better. Still heavily focusing on the money indie and angular side of things rather than bands with more punk rock tendencies, it has all the hallmarks of a good comp - variation, new bands, unreleased tracks and all round general quality.

One Toy Soldier and Kids Near Water provide early highlights, while The Jesus Years, Itch and Get Cape Wear Cape Fly are predictably fantastic. For me there are a couple of misses - The Nothing and The Legacy don't do too much for me really, while I've never been a Send More Paramedics fan, but for those who do like them 'Nothing Tastes Like This' will keep you quiet. All in all this is a nice little compilation that serves as a realistic taster of what the Play Dead zine is all about - what more could you ask?
