Too Much Fighting EP, Chase Through
It’s always nice to hear something a bit different in these days which seem to be overflowing in what can only be described as the latest trend which is already seemingly last season as it is. Anyways, this five piece from Peterborough ply their trade in similar style to fellow town mates $UP; i.e. aggressively driven ska-core minus the brass.

The E.P. starts with a track that pretty much sums up the whole CD; aggressive hardcore riffs, bouncy ska breaks creeping in here and there, forceful group vocals with socio/political lyrics. Although to really call it ska would be a bit inaccurate as it’s more hardcore than ska, but with all successful ‘ska’ bands in the country at the moment the ‘ska’ part is taking a prominent back seat in the music.

One thing I’ve noticed with CD is that the tracks are rather lengthy, I mean we’re not talking seven minute epics here, but after three minutes or so the songs are starting to sound a little too drawn out and perhaps dragging on just a bit too long which results in a bit of a hindrance; I’m sure if they were just that little bit more concise I’d like this release a bit more.

Overall this E.P. creates a strong sound which holds up well throughout, however it doesn’t stray too far from the same formula. This is fine and commendable in that they’ve found a sound and are sticking to it but on the other hand, it does limit them somewhat and the way that a couple of the tracks roll on a little too long is what essentially is stopping this from scoring better. But it’s not a bad effort at all and far from it, they’re a more than competent band judging from this release and I’d say they’re capable of making a name for themselves.
