Like You Don't Know, Lewinski
Like most recordings by bands that struggle to attain stardom, Somerset based ‘Lewinski’ have a story or two to tell about the making of their third release ‘Like You Don’t Know’, as back when recording the five tracks for the EP they parted company with there then label ‘NakedJain’, which for most bands may have been one blow too many and called it a day. But not this plucky threesome, oh no. They plied away and created five tracks that aren’t particularly mind-blowing but do give the lads a decent pedestal to start from.

The music is nothing particularly outstanding either and very little stands out, but they do manage the basics well. The harmonies are in tune, the music is played well and the vocals hold their own. It is just that extra edge which they seem to be lacking. Opener ‘Most Regrets’ features an insatiably catchy chorus which proves the highpoint of a fairly lacklustre introduction to their world whereas follow up effort ‘Waiting for Days’ is a little darker with a pounding intro shaping the song, which is in contrast to ‘Take Me Home’ which sounds startlingly similar to HHN Records ‘Captain Everything’. This is no bad thing however and is arguably the finest track of the five. ‘Thousand Pieces’ is a quirky track, which showcases the growling vocals of Aaron Wright well, and final effort ‘World Wont Listen’ is a somewhat disappointing finale.

Ultimately Lewinski are small fishes in a huge pond and will find it difficult to ride the wave that is a difficult journey for any band. They certainly have talent, and in the sixth year of the careers it shows they have a lot of determination as well, so here is to hoping they can nurture it in a way that benefits us all.
