Just to Find..., More Than Here
You all know the band, the one who is supporting some other lowly sods down your local club, playing punk covers in despair and that one day they will aspire to something more in touch with reality… E.g. playing something they wrote? Well most of these bands simply fall by the way side, sign on the dole or go to University, thankfully for ‘More than Here’ they grew out of the covers stage and stuck through it to create the EP I have before me, the emotionally rocked out stylings of ‘Just to Find’.

Signed to a small indie label by the name of ‘1000 Watt Recordings’ they have created a tidy, if slightly mundane EP with four songs recoiling in chugging guitars, thumping melodies and a whole lot of heartache. The four piece have created music that won’t particularly stand out amongst a crowd of other bands, but does sufficiently enough to hold its own. Living in such a healthy scene as Manchester obviously gives the guys a huge shot in the arm, and it is now down to them how far they can really go.

‘Said for Silence’ opens in passionate style with piercing guitar riffs over the heartfelt lyrics of front man Adrian Maguinness proving a decent opener. ‘Just to Find’ is once again a more than capable effort with some cracking melodies subtly grafted into the song as it picks up pace and slows it down again with the minimum of ease. ‘Drown Out’ is wrist slittingly slow, although the vocal interchanges work well as it works to a genuinely passionate chorus. ‘Coming to Terms’ closes on a slightly heavier note, with the pacing of the song particularly standing out, and arguably the track of the EP.

Unfortunately for ‘More than Here’ they may find it difficult to get out of a pond featuring a whole lot of fish at the moment, but with time and patience they may find themselves swimming to the top of the Manc scene. The EP is by no means bad, but at times songs seem a little lacklustre in performance, however they do show real signs of ingenuity in parts and this can only work in their favour.
