EP, Finch
imageI always knew I was a genius. Before Finch had even officially released 'Falling Into Place' I said it wouldn't be long before they played arenas. One of the bands at the forefront of the 'screamo' revolution, Finch have always been a favourite of mine and I was really disappointed when they went out with a whimper 3 years ago. But now they're back with this digital EP and a clutch of four songs which, strangely, fit very snugly inbetween the two albums. It's almost as if the band sat and listened to both records and settled on a sound which takes elements of both...

'Daylight' is a fucking monster of a tune and a track that sounds like it's taken from the 'WIITB' sessions. Nate's piercing scream kicks things off in spectacular fashion before the band's trademark verse/catchy chorus formula returns like they've never been away. It's probably going to be the single - it should be anyway - and I have no doubt at all it will regain some of the momentum they lost by being all arty farty around the release of 'Say Hello To Sunshine'.

Then the band move back towards the 'Say Hello' era with 'Famine or Disease', which while catchy is far less obvious than the previous track. The band continue to flirt with both sides of the coin, culminating in the fantastic 'Chinese Organ Thieves' which somehow manages to mix up a huge melody with a cacophony of guitars and basslines which really do showcase their love of bands like Faith No More. If you loved Finch first time round you'll love them now they're back. And if you're a newcomer you'll need to go back and work out what the fuss was all about in the first place.

Welcome back Finch - now show these young whippersnappers how it's really done.
