Let’s not kid ourselves – May Contain Nuts is plainly a fucking terrible name for a band. It’s reminiscent of those crazy days around 2000/01 when every band wore chef trousers and sung about fancing Carol Vodermann. But this lot do themselves no favours with the name mostly because they are pretty useful.

This is punkrock at its least fashionable. Right now anyway. It’s music in the vein of 4ft Fingers. The singer reminds me a bit of the guy from the Living End. The music is all upbeat major chord progressions and no pretension. It’s stuff for people who like their ‘90s punk. And MCN do it well.

This lot may not be the band about the bring pop-punk back, but it’s good to see they aren’t afraid to buck the trend of emo-indie which is everywhere right now. Let’s hope the scene doesn’t finish them off any time soon. And that maybe they change the fucking name.
