Scuzzy punk and roll with tinny production values but a lot of heart - that's how I'd describe Hey Vampires, a band with a lot of focus on the bass riffs, which mean they fit nicely into this dance-punk revolution being engineered by Top Shop, yet are easily honest and loveable enough to be a legitimate prospect in it for the music and not the fashion. this self-titled three tracker is my first introduction to the band and it's a decent first effort. The vocals are badly recorded and often hard to distinguish, but I guess that's part of the charm - there's an energy on tracks like 'We Need Your Blood' that surpasses the need to understand the lyrics. There's a passion and a fire in the band's belly that makes them ones to watch - this isn't quite essential listening but it's fairly impressive nonetheless.
