Everything Is Alive, Pomegranetes
This CD is here in my possession as a result of lazy PR work, I’m sure of it. I have said it before – some CDs just shouldn’t find their way to our door. Punktastic is all about variety, but this is not punk in any shape or form. Still, I will be as objective as possible.

So, here goes. This really isn’t very good. The rambling press release that came with the CD does, funnily enough, do the band justice. It is as directionless as this debut album from Pomegranates – the excellently named 4-piece from Cincinnati. Let me quote a little of the blurb: “idiosyncratic sing-alongs, utterly-danceable hooks and warm textures ooze from the band’s latest effort, along with occasional bouts of spastic unrestraint”. Well, what I hear is a guy with the most feminine voice of all time – we are talking taking the male glands to the very brink of destruction – and a whole big wash of horribly twee, unmemorable guitar work. There is nothing on here remotely ‘danceable’ or ‘sing-alongable’, or ‘able’ in any way whatsoever.

Avoid this one because there are a million finer examples of indie bands which touch on Punktastic than this.
