3-track promo, The First
The First come from the usual musical backwater of Wisbech/Kings Lynn and play a fiery brand of pop-punk that has a similar crunch to that of a band like Fastlane, although in a much more aggressive way. I've heard the band in the past and always felt they lacked a certain something and while the songs on this new demo still aren't quite there, they're certainly on the right lines. The guitars are heavier and dirtier and the lack of a clean sound gives them a nice edge. The vocals are supplemented by well rounded backing shouts and the song structures don't follow the tried and tested verse/chorus/verse formula which suits the band well. Each of the tunes is catchy, but possibly not catchy enough to make you want to listen over and over again. Anyway, unless someone tells me differently, The First are the best band in Wisbech. High praise indeed...
