Pictures Fade, Cocean
imageYou would never guess that Barnsley's Cocean feature ex-members of Catch It Kebabs and Send More Paramedics as this band are the complete polar opposite of both of those bands. Taking influence from Appleseed Cast, Jeniferever and the more relaxed musings of The Smashing Pumpkins, they're quite the laid back affair, drifting guitar riffs intertwining quite beautifully with some long and winding vocals, often grouped in as male and female vox which juxtapose seemlessly among the drums and bass lines.

At just four tracks it's difficult to put this record entirely in perspective about how good the band could be, but on the evidence of the four tracks here Cocean are the best Deep Elm band never to have been on Deep Elm. Hopefully they will build on this EP and, if they do, a full-length could be very special indeed.
