Dead Skin / Dried Blood, Attica! Attica!
imageThis 12-tracker is the first solo effort from Aaron Scott in his newest band, Attica! Attica! Formerly of Marathon and De La Hoya, this band are poles apart from his previous two bands. While the passion is still evident in his voice, Scott has toned everything down a lot. There are melodies and choruses in abundance and the stripped down sound really does him wonders. It's a pretty simple concept, often just a guitar, basic drums and the strong vocal presence, but as on tracks like 'The Play's The Thing', it really does work.

In places this record has kind of a more chilled out The Hold Steady vibe to it. It's a drinking record; you've done a hard day's work, you head to a bar and this is the perfect musical accompanyment. It's brutally honest and that shines through in Scott's voice, making songs sound eclectic yet catchy. 'Frostbite' is a beautiful little song, while 'Blackout' is another little gem. The winter is now upon us, but Attica! Attica! easily have the power to warm up your heart.
