Tell Yourself It’s Paranoia, Resonate
When I read that their two main influences were At The Drive-In and Deftones I became dubiously excited. Unfortunately that’s not quite a true reflection of Resonate’s 6-track release ‘Tell Yourself It’s Paranoia.’ Whilst the Exmouth trio’s impressively polished EP is undoubtedly better than most of their peers’, it’s difficult at this time to see them surfacing for air in a genre flooded with similar sounding lesser-talented bands.

The problem is I’ve heard 90% of this before from 1000 other bands, yet there’s 10% concealed within the chaff that’s unique, exciting, and (dare I say it) groundbreaking. It would be easy to suggest that a change of vocal style might just make the difference as the singing, whilst musically spot-on, is the most generic thing about Resonate. I guess though that only time will tell… If they can use the advantage of their stupidly young age and evolve away from the crowd then they (and Lockjaw) could just be onto something a little bit special.
