Horizons, Parkway Drive
imageThis record sounds huge! Killswitch Engage's Adam D really knows his production stuff and this release is one of a few now that sound absolutely huge. It helps and hinders Parkway Drive on 'Horizons' - on the one hand the band sound better than ever before, but on the other it strips away a little bit of emotion and makes it sound a little too big, if that's possible. There's a definite All That Remains/Killswitch feel here, that kind of huge riff that blows away your speakers when you turn up the volume feel. But, as the list of influences shows, it's a sound that we've all heard before. And while it's done well, it's not done well enough to mask the fact Parkway Drive sound a lot like their influences. Not a bad album whatsoever, just a little obvious-sounding. Those who enjoy the genre will like 'Horizons', but there are better bands around if you're just starting out.
