On Phonelines and Letterheads, My So Called Life
imageRule one of being in a band - make sure your singer can hit a note. My So Called Life have a so called 'singer' who sounds like he's a cat being tortured, just moments before being castrated. To say he's hitting the wrong notes is an understatement; the poor lad is completely out of range and although it impacts on the mid-tempo plodders that make up this seven-track EP, the songs themselves are so dreary and forgettable the vocals are pretty much the only interesting thing about the band. And when I say interesting, I mean memorable. And even then for the wrong reasons.

Engineer Records claim this lot sound like The Get Up Kids, which is not only a downright lie but an absolute abomination and the author of the press release should hang his or her head in shame. 'Let's get A Move On We've A war To Win' sounds like very early My Awesome Compilation, but it's not enough to save a very poor all round effort.
