Bar Brawls & Downfalls, Haddonfield
Thousand Yard Stereo's Haddonfield are here with a 5-track EP, their first proper release following a string of 2-tracks and singles. Recorded with Greg Haver & Nick Lloyd in tow, two of Wales' finest producers, they've created a polished punk record that gives more than just a passing nod to the likes of Avail, Face to Face as well as UK underground legends Graveltrap.

There's nothing groundbreaking here, and Haddonfield are certainly not reinventing the musical wheel with this EP, but it's a fun and well-written release nonetheless. Opening track 'Panic' stands to be the best effort here, with a resonating chorus that would prove to be a sure-fire live singalong. Elsewhere, the re-recording of 'Romero' sounds as if it could have used a little more time in the mix, yet it's a passionate piece that has become something of a signature song for the band.

While not likely to be a band that sets the world alight, Haddonfield have a familiar sound that isn't likely to offend anyone upon its listening. If anything, it's a relief to hear a band come out of South-Wales that isn't afraid to ignore the current musical fashion of the region, and create some truly nostalgic punk rock.
