All At Once (re-issue), Paulson
imageI really like Paulson. I thought 'Variations' was an excellent little record, a CD that took elements of Radiohead and Squarepusher and gave them a modern day, 'emo' contemporary spin. Inventive drumming, cool vocals...Paulson seemed like a band trying something a little different. Doghouse clearly agreed and this record is a re-issue of the band's last album, given a good spruce up - and it sounds all the better for it.

'Calling On You' is simply fantastic, for example, all lo-fi and fun, full of samples and exquisite drumming. The vocal range is great, putting many of the band's more well-known peers to shame. And while the band aren't quite as inventive as they were on 'Variations', they're certainly more exciting than most of the bands around today. 'Slow Down' is a mid-paced, yet catchy little number, while 'Voids' is another excellent track. With The All American Rejects proof of what working with Doghouse can do for you, Paulson have an excellent chance at cracking the bigger leagues. This is an excellent record and one well worth checking out.
