Lift The Curse, Freya
imageI think the fact that I like Freya's cover of 'War Pigs' best says it all. And even then, their cover isn't a patch on the Sabbath original. For a band containing a majority membership of Earth Crisis members, you'd be right to expect a bit of a din - and that's exactly what you get on 'Lift The Curse', a record that's hard, heavy and hard and then heavy some more. I guess it's what older fans of Victory Records may say was the label's staple sound five or so years ago. However, for me, it doesn't break any new ground and while I'll openly admit Freya are not to my tastes, I don't feel like it's the kind of record that even the most open-minded of musical converts will find themselves listening to in much of a hurry.
