Eat Your Young, Monikers
Until last track 'Not The New' came round, I was about to give up on Monikers, who feature ex-members of Discount and count Jawbreaker and Crimpshine among influences. The first four tracks of this record are predictable and badly recorded, but when the final acoustic track kicks in you can actually sense some emotion and feeling within the vocals - it's the first time this 5-tracker actually has any heart or bite and rather than fall asleep, as I was about to, I actually repeated the song over and over. Whereas the rest of the record disappoints with predictable Gainesville punk rock, the last song, a relative curveball, offers a little ray of light among an otherwise dismal release.
