Singer Danny Crossan sounds a little bit like Davey Havok. That's where the AFI comparisons should end, although, rather surprisngly, the band's bio suggests they sound like Iron Maiden, Coheed and cambria, He Is Legend and Davey's crew. A Day Called Desire sound like none of the above. While reasonably impressive, they're more like The Blackout or Brigade or another of those new 'emo' (or whatever this month's buzzword is) bands. They hit the right spots, but they're ultimately just more of the same.

Crossan's voice makes this lot standout more than they probably would normally. As I said, there's very little wrong with A Day Called Desire, but I just find there are so many bands of this type out there at the minute that you have to really excell to stand out from the pack. And while this quintet certainly have the tools to eventually do that, I don't quite think this EP is there yet. 'Everything, Yet Nothing' suggests the band could well be on the right lines - the chorus is catchy and the verses build up very nicely - but I'm not completely sold - yet. I would be interested to hear what the band come up with next mind; if they can find their own sound a little more and build around the impressive vocals, they still could do something.
