Outside We Are Fine, You In Series
If you like Circa Survive, Thrice's slower songs and Gatsbys American Dream, then I'm pretty certain You In Series could become your new favourite band. With vocals stretching across vast landscapes of atmospheric guitars, YIS have come up with one of Equal Vision's best releases in recent times. What I like about this band is that they still manage to come across as melodic and catchy, but without resorting to the power chord by numbers technique adopted by many of their peers. Instead, they stretch and flex their musical muscles, creating huge sounding sounds that sound great. 'When and Where A Real World Occurs', for example, is a great song that floats along quite brilliantly, lulling the listener in before exploding.

While it's fair to say the band don't re-write the genre rulebook, you can't really lump YIS in with the current crop of 'emo' bands. Kyle Lobeck has distinguished and powerful vocals reminscient of Antony Green of Circa Survive; wailing, push at the walls in an attempt to take each song forward. In the main, his attempts are succesful, backed up by more than competent musical parts too. There aren't too many standouts, but by the same token there isn't a single bad song either. Each track is strong with its own good points, making this a record that deserves your attention.
