Global Warning, Dripht
Continuing in our quest to cover most of the European countries, Punktastic visits Malta and their version of the Rx Bandits - Dripht. The band's own description is arguably as interesting as the music they make - "rock'n'roll meets rebellion, art meets agitation. The militant funk is the fuel that feeds the Dub-Reggae-In-Punky-Hiphop-Tempo." Although if you're expecting some kind of a Sonic Boom Six-esque sonic assault you may be a tad disappointed, as the band are a lot more Rx Bandits in their approcah.

'Global Warning' does everything you'd expect from a good band - fun, energetic, interesting, well produced and catchy hooks, it meets all the requirements of the good song rulebook. While pushing at the boundaries, Dripht never quite manage to break them down, which I guess is the only negative I can give them. They fuse several different genres very well and leave their type of music free of any mess or unnecessary musical additions. Tracks float between elements of punk and ska to funk and pop, and it's this which keeps the band under the interesting banner, rather than the irritating. I doubt they'll change your world, but if there's a better Maltese band I'm yet to hear them...
