Leicester's New State sound a little like Lostprophets without the metallic or harder edge, but thankfully they appear to not look like their Welsh counterparts at all. So while Top Man's loss may be our gain, I have to be honest and say that the quintet's modern sound isn't all that apetising. New State are far from bad - indeed this three tracker is well recorded and produced and has a nice full sound. The three songs don't outstay their welcome either, acting as a decent introduction for what the band have to offer. However, on repeated listens I found the three songs did begin to blend into one another, and while 'Seize the Moment' is possibly the band's best moment, on a number of listens it doesn't hold my attention as much as I would like. Still, a decent enough starting point, without ever really stretching the genre boundaries or trying anything new.
