Care in the Community, Babar Luck
Ever since the demise of the fabulous King Prawn, Babar Luck has hit the streets with his solo brand of socially-aware folk/punk. At venues across the country people have been mentioning his shows in the same breath as the likes of Messrs Bragg and Strummer, which is a heady comparison. But then when you listen to this record, you begin to understand those comparisons. This is as 'punk' a release, should you wish to define it as such, as anything released in a long time. While those still mourning the loss of King Prawn will appreciate the style and Babar's vocals, this is arguably every bit as good - if not better - than his former band.

Kicking off with the catchy '1 Luv', 'Care in the Community' is an inspiring record. Babar's vocal delivery won't be for everyone, but for me it's strangely compelling. He's like a storyteller, and like the best you're almost sucked in and told to listen, albeit it in a really pleasant way. 'Movies' is extremely laid back, almost reggae-esque in its delivery, while 'War Fever' is another classic in the making. 'Care in the Community' is thoughtful and introspective throughout, inspirational at times and brilliant in the main. Whether you were a fan of KP or not, this is essential listening.
