PistolitaPistolita mainman Conor Meads was just 18 when he wrote most of this record, which when you consider how majestic it all sounds, is really rather impressive. I guess the obvious Ben Folds/Jack's Mannequin comparisons will have to be made because of the piano, but there's a lot more of a full band influence here. Tracks like 'Age' even have a bit of a dancey vibe going on, making this record really varied and not in an identity crisis kind of way either.
Switching from the slow and emotion-filled tracks like 'Fadawhite' to the bouncier and poppier songs like 'Big Shot', Pistolita are a band that I suspect may well creep under the radars of many, but should definitely be ones to keep an eye on. Sure, this record is far from faultless - some of the tracks go on a little long and the piano is a little bit of an attention-grabber in a bad way at times - but there are enough moments here to keep all manner of music fans happy.
