This Party Called Life, 6 Pack Deep
Remember when Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake were huge? Still like bands like The Know How and Suburban Legends? Then Louisiana's 6 Pack Deep are just the band for you. This mob do absolutely nothing new whatsoever - their sound is caked in 1998 - but they're fun slapstick ska with plenty of brass and, to be honest, it's a sound that I haven't heard in quite some time. maybe ska is on the way back 'in' again, who knows?! Anyway, this is a five-track self-released EP that is covered in good times and fun and I can imagine these guys are a lot of fun lve, although this record itself is a little hit and miss.

'Down South' and '12 o'clock rock' are real party anthems, full of upstroke guitar chords and upbeat brass parts, but for all the good work those two songs have, 'Live To Die' and 'Hangover Remedy' are just a little dull. There's no killer hook, the vocals are a little flat and the childish edge the band throw into their songs just doesn't work. With finale 'Damn The Man' arguably their best song this gets three out of five, although, as I said, this is more a throwback than something we can look to as a shining beacon in '06. Ones for ska fans to check out, but not life changing by any means.
