Holy shit. Now this is a kick in the bollocks - and then some. Usually I'd pass this style of music onto one of our other reviewers, but needs must so I have to do it. And I'm really glad I have. 'Alaska' is a bleak, depressing record that's so full of spite, anger and emotion that it's a real journey getting from beginning to end. Drums spit and kick, guitars shoot out like snipers while the vocals are just the most aggressive I've heard in such a long time. Between The Buried and Me don't do things by half measures - fuck, they take you by the jugular and proceed to knock the living crap out of you.

'All Bodies' sounds enormous. 'Breathe In, Breathe Out' pummels you like you've survived 12 rounds with Tyson. 'Backwards Marathon' is nothing short of epic. 'Selkies: The Endless Obsession' features metal solos so good Dimebag (God rest his soul) would have been busting one out over them. I suppose there will be comparisons to Dillinger Escape Plan, but the technical ability on show here deserves its own accolades. BTBAM are quite simply astonishing and 'Alaska' is their crowning moment to date.
