Looking for thrashy pop punk in the vein of North London’s Captain Everything? Then look no further than North Wales for Seize the Day! Except it isn’t quite Captain Everything, even though secretly the four piece are probably harbouring desires to be Watford’s finest. While the music is bouncy, chirpy and decently paced, there is something missing from the final product, and that is the no frills charm that many of their contemporaries have. Bluntly put, Seize the Day aren’t as snappy as they think they are.

Over the quartet of tracks featured, all are basic and leave little to the imagination in terms of content and levels of inventiveness. Fortunately it isn’t all doom and gloom though and the foundations of some promising elements are apparent. Opener ‘Seize the Day’ is an ode to the band and sets the tone, while the latter end of Track 3 shows some degree of differentiating ideas in terms of arrangement which benefits the sound greatly.

Sadly, this is about as good as it gets though. Track 2 feels to lightweight and needs more behind it, while Track 4 isn’t memorable or good enough as a closer. One saving grace is the vocals of frontman Ron whose growling projection is a refreshing change to the usual sickly smooth voices out there. But until Seize the Day find something else to complement the style they are currently playing, they may find themselves not going anywhere fast.
