3-track demo, The Towers
We originally reviewed The Towers a bit back and slated them. Well Jay did anyway. Suffice to say the band have come back with a clutch of new songs, and a new singer, looking to make us eat our words. They've not quite managed to do that, but this is better than their last effort by quite some way. they've gone from being a really bad band into one that shows promise, although is still someway off the required level to make any kind of impact.

The major change is that of the sound - the band have dropped a lot of the punkier aspects of the band and, especially vocally, have cranked up the melodies. Vocalist Jamie Sellers carries more than a passing resemblance to those pesky kids in Busted, meaning lots of harmonies and very soft vocals, albeit with a little more punch than the departed pop trio. Think more Fallout Boy, or at least in that style anyway. The problem is, that the band don't have the required ability to write songs that demand you listen or singalong, while, at times, the lyrics are cumbersome. It leaves the singer tripping over his own tongue with GCSE style words that have all been said before.

Still, the three tracks here are far, far better than the last set they recorded and if the band continue to make progress at this rate of knots then they will be doing something of a good standard in no time. It's not original at all, but it does sound natural - and with this type of music that's pretty much all you can ask for.
