The Undisputed Kings EP, Blue Demon
Imagine a cross between the Voodoo Glow Skulls and wrestler Ray Mysterio - then imagine the resultant mess started a rockabilly band smeared with Hispanic influences. From that chaos, Blue Demon were born; a mass of masked men thrusting themselves into the limelight with a really enjoyable four-track EP. This isn't something I'd usually listen to, if I'm being honest, but in a short burst this record was a really fun listen. What makes my job of explaining Blue Demon even easier, is that their own bio is so well written I can merely copy and paste and save myself the job of explaining!

"Rats thrive in squalor and this is where Blue Demon found momentum, rising up like a three headed beast, ready to tear the throat out of any so called scene of back slapping art fags and johnny-come-lately band wagoniers. Enemies were easily made as the rockabilly hurricane of hate rolled into town, non-believers looked on in horror as the great beast finally unfurled itself, spewing forth an angry retoric so caustic, that it made their very ears bleed as they cowered in sheer godless horror behind the bodies of their fallen comrades. And this was only the beginning! Things fall quiet for a time after each brutal onslaught, people can only assume the horrors they witnessed were only part of some hideous lucid nightmare. As memory begins to fade the rumblings begin again, slowly, building from a dim whine, to a loud rhythmic pulse that draws people like flys to a web, unable to control simple bodily function. Fluids flow, brains melt and spines quiver in both ecstacy and horror as the nightmare begins all over again..."

If that doesn't get you interested, then the tracks on offer will. 'She Got The Voodoo' draws vocal comparisons to VGS, although the music is a bass slapping, danceable delight. There's a lack of vocals throughout actually, and this is a bit of a disappointment, but the general level musicianship is of a very high standard. Blue Demon are certainly an acquired taste, but they are fun enough to appeal to a wide audience and I'm sure their live show is also very worthy of checking out. A nice surprise!
