Chemicals and Constellations, Dude Fish
Dude Fish’s latest release comes in the form of this 5 track E.P. Mixing pop punk with a dash of ska and a drop of the good times; it seems to be worth impressing the idea of something half decent coming out of Halifax. Not only attracting the eyes and ears of a few music buffs and other top UK bands, according to Dude Fish, James from Busted has also given them a good listening and likes what he hears, (he’s the small one without the mohawk.) whether that’s credible or not, I’m not too sure…

The CD for me unfortunately gets off on a bad note. Another reviewer, maybe it would be a positive, but not for me… I can’t stand intros. It’s a complete waste of a track in my opinion, having 3 minutes of guitar solo, which is inevitably skipped by most listeners, when you could have another track on there… I mean someone name an intro that you really rate on a CD? Sorry guys. However, after I’ve hit the skip button, the E.P picks up pace. Track 2, “Chemicals and Constellations” is straight in with the ska influence, trumpet provided by John Conyers of the “Catch it Kebabs” bring a positive, fresh sound onto the record as the rest of the CD follows on a basic pop punk set up. Tracks 3, “Stars” is the E.P’s gem, plenty of hooks and sing a long moments make this one my firm favourite, and a track I believe would have definitely made a better opener.

Closing on the track “Dude Fish” which throws more of a ska influence with bands like Sublime on the edge of your lips, it’s easy to see why these boys are making a name for themselves. It’s fun loving, happy, all hold hands and embrace, pop-punk, and there is no reason why it’s not worth your time. Come on… James from Busted likes it!
