Get This E.P, Hurricane Party
Hurricane Party look like a true set of pin up boys on the front cover of this CD released on Sanctuary Records this month. Mixing influences from the 70’s rock scene, bands like Zeppelin, AC/DC and Aerosmith, and having recently toured with Status Quo, you can see where they get that image from.

This 5 track CD from the press release gave me visions of a new “The Darkness” trying to cash in on the “old – school” scene and ploughing all their earnings back into lycra clothing production, but it isn’t really as tongue in cheek as that. It’s more on the edge of AC/DC with a very riff orientated sound, plenty of “foot on monitor” solo parts and extravagant drum fills. It will be a long time before this band are filling stadiums with legions of tight jean wearing fans with mullets, but for now, they are certainly producing the sort of music, that has their wagon rolling in the right direction. Tracks like “Roadstar” are impressive (it’s the first time in ages I’ve heard a “fade out” at the end of a track,) as is “Killer” which is definitely one song to watch for if this sort of music is your call.

This band will either go one of two ways. Firstly they could gig their arses off up and down the country knowing that one day their fan base will increase and they will launch themselves into bigger shows and stadium rock status. Or, they could become unfortunate victims of their own (at the minute minor) success and start worrying about how many Marshall cabs they can fit on stage, and will there been enough room to lower a replica stonehenge down in front of the drum kit… I believe the first choice would be the more realistic and better option.
