I know a lot of people hate it when I hype bands. It’s not intentional, it’s more my enthusiasm shining through rather enthusiastically. Get Cape… is 18-year-old Sam Duckworth. It’s just Sam, an acoustic guitar and some rather well placed samples. It doesn’t sound groundbreaking and it doesn’t sound original, but it is. And what’s more, it’s fucking ace. The concept is simple; Sam just plays catchy music with socially aware lyrics. There’s no cheap stunt or gimmick, no ill-placed rapping or clichéd emo references; this is just good music.

This demo is just two tracks, and two well produced tracks at that. The vocals switch effects really well and the sampled loops add so much to the mix too, making this sound fantastic. Opener ‘Untitled’ is gorgeous; its “all right now, I can see clearer now” refrain is insanely catchy, even if the message behind the song is probably more paramount than its hummability. If that’s even a word. I hear a lot of new bands; new demos pass through the door daily, but this record just made the hairs on the back of my neck stick out straight away. It’s less than 10-minutes in length, but boy is it good. Look out for new songs on a split with The Remarkable Rocket next year. That’s arguably going to be a contender for the record of the year already…
