The Empty Page’s ‘Deeply Unlovable’ is exactly the opposite

By Ben Tipple

Manchester based The Empty Page list their influences as The Pixies, Hole and Sonic Youth, with The Smiths and Joy Division also noted in their extensive list. All are instrumental in the trio’s sound, borrowing from Courtney Love and Shirley Manson’s style in the chorus but with a distinct punk edge that at times harnesses Brody Dalle’s power.

The video for ‘Deeply Unlovable’, their debut single, brings together various women to address societies’ views on femininity. “”It’s about the constant feelings most women have of not coming up to scratch in some kind of universal and very narrow beauty contest,” The Empty Page explain. “Also how the problem can be exacerbated by the way other women treat each other as well as pressures from the media and society at large. The video features lots of brilliant women of all ages and styles singing the lyrics.”

‘Deeply Unlovable’ will be available from the 1st February 2016. The Empty Page are planning a debut album for later in the year alongside a tour.
