Stream the Old Wives’ back-catalogue ahead of new material

By Ben Tipple

Celebrating their signing to the ever-expanding Little Rocket Records, Edmonton punks Old Wives will be re-releasing their entire back-catalogue. Soon to be available through Bandcamp on a pay what you want basis, the material precedes new music by the trio due in the Spring.

Having played together for eight years, Old Wives have released three records totalling 23 tracks, all of which feature on the discography. Alongside this, their extensive touring history led to drummer Darren’s recent appointment to Teenage Bottlerocket. “We’ve been friends with those guys for a long time and they knew what kind of drummer Darren is (that is to say – he fucking nails it!). But things are good – we just have a daytimer now for Darren,” his bandmate Ryan laughs.

The release of the back-catalogue follows a new video for opener ‘The Grown Up / The Fuck Up‘. “That’s one of our favourites for sure,” Ryan explain of the track choice. “Plus it gives people who may not be familiar with us a glimpse of what’s coming on the new record. To be honest, when it came time to write ‘Three’ I used ‘The Grown Up / The Fuck Up’ as a jumping off point; like ‘when this song is over, where would the next song go?’ type idea.”

‘Three’, their forthcoming new record, marks the first new material release through Little Rocket Records. “Expect an album with a lot of things to say,” he expands. “We’ve had a lot of shit go on in all of our collective lives these past few years and we really tried to translate that to song. Of course at our core, we are a ‘pop’ punk band so there are lots of harmonies, hooks, and key changes too.”

Old Wives are also extremely positive about their new relationship with the label, and allowing the record to see the light of day. “It fit right in with what we wanted,” Ryan says of Little Rocket. “I guess we fit in with what they wanted as well! Things are going amazingly well working with this group – can’t wait to get the album out and really get things moving!”

“We are currently working on writing believe it or not,” he wraps up, hinting at even more new music in the near future. “We’ve had this album done for a while and think there are still some ideas that never came to fruition. Also, with any album release comes touring so look for dates to be announced early next year. If you’re in our vicinity though, maybe you’ll see us sooner!”
