South Berkeley unveil youthful melancholic vibe in debut video for ‘Tiny Rascals’

French pop punks South Berkeley are premiering their first ever video with us at Punktastic, which is for the song ‘Tiny Rascals’.

The track, which is their first on their new label Krod Records, takes on what the band describe as “sad and melancholic catchiness” that the likes of blink-182 and The Ataris evoked in the early 2000s.

Touching upon the way they write lyrics, the band state: “Our lyrics are, most of the time, willingly evasive, to reach a large number of people. We like to describe some naive and pointless components, in a way to plunge the listener, either into a realistic context, or into a dreamlike world.” In the case of this song’s themes,  the subject of social alienation and exclusion that occurs from childhood to adolescence is dealt with. To South Berkeley, such a feeling can be described like “wolves being surrounded by sheep”. “Here you’re facing your first real problems, fallen dreams and emotional deceptions,” concludes the trio. “You’re wandering into the void.”

‘Tiny Rascals’ is taken from South Berkeley’s forthcoming new yet to be titled album, which will be released soon via Krod Records.
