Next month sees the 20th anniversary of the legendary punk festival, Rebellion. This year also celebrates the 40th anniversary of the birth of punk, and 300 bands from all corners of the punk community will appear over the 3 days. Descendents are playing their only UK gig this year, along with sets from Jello Biafra, Dischord Records’ Dag Nasty, Keith Morris’ FLAG, The Damned, Buzzcocks and many more punk icons.
Amongst the homegrown talent appearing this year are Brighton punks, Gnarwolves. In anticipation of their performance, vocalist Thom Weeks gave us a selection of haiku that pay homage to some of the legends of the weekend that inspired Gnarwolves.
8 Haiku (but not real haiku) about 7 really good bands playing Rebellion Festival
Dag Nasty
So, I trusted you
Repeated aggressively
Is a great outro
Adolescents
Classic van bangers
And we named our last record
After those bozo’s
Discharge
Punks sound so great when
They hear nothing, say nothing
But they went metal
Descendents
Even without specs
Still not as cool as Milo
Goes to show I guess
Buzzcocks
Pete Shelly is great
Not the McDonalds advert
Punk rock chicken wrap
UK Subs
When I was sixteen
I fan boyed the drummer so hard
He was not happy
999
Do you remember
On 999 lifesavers
Michael Burke’s great suits?
999 (again)
Seriously though
“Emergency” is a tune
What a festival
