Our search for meaning continues on Sean Grant & The Wolfgang’s ‘Take A Man’s Body’

By Ben Tipple

‘Take A Man’s Body’ is the second part of a story of self-discovery. Taken from Sean Grant & The Wolfgang’s forthcoming ‘7 Deadly 7’ EP, it acts a the direct sequel to ‘Brother‘, the tale of a 25 year old salesman stuck in a endless loop of the mundane. The protagonist’s failure to find the solution at the bottom of a bottle is relieved by the birth of his child. But as the cycle continues, absolution is still out of reach.

“He’s given everything,” Sean Grant says of the continuing ‘Take A Man’s Body’, “he’s tried everything and there’s still no definitive answer, no overall resounding meaning of life, just a series of memories and commitments that he has given his heart and soul to. “You take a mans body, your taking his soul,” and all he has are these memories and worldly possessions. “Boxes of boxes, boxes of time.” All he can do is stack up these boxes of memories and reflect on the life that he has led. “He piles them up high”.”

It’s a bleak nature matched by the minimalism of the track, with the frustrations played out by thundering repetitive drums. Sean Grant hints at folklore in his tones, as much of a storyteller as a singer. There’s folk, rock and blues running in his veins, all coming together to aid his search for salvation from the everyday.

‘7 Deadly 7’ will be available from the 6th May 2016 via Fierce Panda Records. Pre-order it now over at iTunes.
