Lovers Turn to Monsters unfurl video for the reflective ‘Shitty Too’

By Aaron Lohan

Lovers Turn to Monsters are exclusively premiering their new video for ‘Shitty Too’ with us at Punktastic.

Based in Glasgow, Lovers Turn to Monsters is creatively rooted from the mind of Kyle Wood, resulting in emotive lo-fi pop fuelled indie rock. Wood has only recently taken the project into full band format with a line up built from whoever is on hand. The track in question, ‘Shitty Too’, is brimming with hooks, sincerity and a country-sequel twang, showing off the project’s capability.

“Shitty Too originally appeared as one of my many messy lo-fi numbers on a cassette called ‘Lou ∞’,” explains Wood. “It was one of the songs that felt like it could comfortably evolve in the ever changing full band line up of Lovers Turn to Monsters.”

Touching upon the track’s themes, he had the following to say: “Lyrically it’s one of my many odes to mental health – I wrote it just as I moved in with my partner in Glasgow and realised that I had to deal with my mental health head on. At the time I was thinking a lot about how lucky I was to have all these opportunities in front of me, and finding myself irritated by my daft low moods… I was listening to a lot of Taylor Swift at the time too. The band picked up on that. Cue epic country pop.”

‘Shitty Too’ is taken from Lovers Turn to Monsters’ upcoming split EP with fellow Glaswegian band Sawlung, who feature current/former members of Algernon Doll, The Sinking Feeling and Frauen. This will be released on the 13th April on cassette and CD via Gold Mold Records. They will also be playing the following UK shows.
