Here’s a new track from Kelly Kemp to break your heart (in the best way)

By Maryam Hassan

Today we’ve got a stream of a new song from Kelly Kemp, lots of folk, indie pop goodness! ‘7 Miles’ is taken from her upcoming album ‘Come Back, Come Back’ which is out on Everything Sucks Music on November 30th. Listen to it below:

We spoke to Kelly Kemp about the past, present and future: ” I actually started playing solo before I was in bands (No Comply) so it was more of a return for me. I used to do a bit of busking as a teenager, I was very confident… I wouldn’t have the nerve to do that now!”

One of my biggest musical influences is Harry Chapin. He was an incredible musician and brilliant storyteller. I also listen to a lot of hip hop and a lot of pop but very little singer/songwriter stuff. Secretly I want to be a rapper.

There’s definitely more songs about relationships on this album but that wasn’t intentional… I’ve got a bit more reflective as I’ve gotten older.”

She says on the album title and her favourite song on the album: “It’s from my favourite bit in the animated version of Lord of the Rings. I have a whole list of song titles which are my favourite lines from various sci-fi and fantasy films and that one was the least silly!

‘Here for a Good Time’ is written about my cousin who was a really important person in my life but a very difficult one. It was incredibly hard to write and I got upset a lot so it took a long time. My cousin has since died so I don’t intend to play it again live. She didn’t get to hear it and I never really intended her to.

Kelly’s upcoming plans include “loads of gigs in UK and Europe. I’ve got some exciting plans for my next record with a bit of a change in sound. Also, I’ve got a record coming out with my other project Dear Everyone in which I sing with Helen Chambers and El Morgan. There may also be an oddball radio musical that I’m co-writing with Roo from Bangers about a band touring in space”

We’re liking the sound of that radio musical, also Dear Everyone are something you shouldn’t miss out on! You can grab a pre-order of Kelly Kemp’s brilliant new album over here.
